The nursery school was established in 1966 by Metropolitan Memorial UMC to serve its members and the community. The school's philosophy-that small children thrive best in a small, family-oriented, nurturing environment-and the continuity of faculty give the school its special style and flavor.
PURPOSE
- Provide, as a community service, a Christian environment for children's early group learning experiences.
- Develop each child's self-confidence and self-respect.
- Provide an atmosphere of freedom for learning and of encouragement of creativity and initiative in acquiring new experiences.
- Create conditions for the child's realization that learning is exciting, fun, unending, and infinitely varied, including the academic, social and religious.
- Contribute to the child's growth in physical coordination and music development.
- Provide the opportunity to learn and practice a concern for humankind and to recognize and experience God's love and care for them.
- Foster a love of country and concern for God's universe.
OUR PROGRAM
- A course of study or a curriculum as such cannot be stated. Nursery school is as broad as life, and the interests of the child are many.
- Our two-year old program is an unstructured program where children learn to play together.
- While there is variation in the 3 and 4-year-old day's activity, there is also a definite routine that will provide experiences to the formation of good habits.
- When the child arrives he or she may choose an activity such as playing with housekeeping equipment, blocks, books, trucks, puzzles, or paints.
- Circle time enables the child to participate in singing, rhythm, conversation, games, and stories. Children are encouraged to gain insights and skills at their own learning level.
- Juice and cookies are served each day. A short period of relaxation is enjoyed. There are frequent outdoor play periods making use of our excellent preschool playground.
CHAPEL
A 20-minute weekly chapel service for all classes is conducted on Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. by one of the ministers of Metropolitan Methodist Church. The Children's Ministry Director and the ministers of Metropolitan Memorail foster the children's spiritual development with Godly Play during chapel time.
ADMISSION
Children are eligible to attend if they reach their second birthday by August 31. Children from Metropolitan Church will be given preference until February 1 after which applications from others will be considered.

EARLY MORNING DROP-OFF SERVICE - 8:15 a.m. to 9 a.m.
For parents needing to drop-off children before 9 a.m., the school will have a teacher on duty to care for children in a room separate from the classroom. Parents must designate the number of days per week and the length of time needed by July 15. The extra charge for this service will be billed in advance by the semester.
